IMAGES OF HOPE Caring and Connecting Patients recognize the special efforts of those who support them during cancer treatments. 1. LINDA MILLER WITH SYBILANN WILLIAMS, MD In June of 2010, I walked into yet another doctor's office not knowing that I would meet a most incredible woman. By that time I had met many doc- tors and nurses, and, while they all had been very nice and did their best to help me feel better, I still was a nervous wreck. Dr. Williams sat down, took my hand, told me about everything that was going on in my body, and gave me some options as to what we could do about the cancer. I looked into her eyes and told her that we would do whatever she said to do to get me well again; she smiled and said, "let's get to work then." I will be forever grateful to this amazing wom- an and her wonderful staff of doctors and nurses who have made me well again. God gives us many angels in our lives, and I thank Him every day for Dr. Williams. 2. TONY BABIARZ (RIGHT) WITH CARL WILLIAMSON, CHAPLAIN Carl Williamson was an inspi- ration to me and to my wife. He ofen listened to my problems, and we felt better afer talking to him. Thank you, Carl. ➊ ❸ ❷ 3. GEORGE ALAN RADER (RIGHT) WITH BRICE CORBIN, CONCIERGE My name is George Rader. I am a lung cancer sur- vivor. Brice is the concierge at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) in Philadelphia, but he also takes patients on tours to many local attractions. He has a great sense of humor, positive energy, and bubbly personality. I'll never forget the wonderful trips we took to see the Philly's play or the historical tour of Old Philadelphia. When we get on the shuttle for tours, he says, "We're not going to talk about can- cer or treatment today, this is just going to be fun!" He takes our minds off of the cancer. No case is typical. You should not expect to experience these results. ➍ 4. JANITA GREEN (CENTER) WITH JENNIFER BOELKINS (LEFT), ONCOLOGY INFORMATION SPECIALIST, AND SISTER-IN-LAW FRAN REICHEL(RIGHT). I had wanted to meet Jennifer, who I spoke to when I first called CTCA in July 2009, for a long time. To my surprise, CTCA flew her in to be with me when I had the occasion of sharing my breast cancer story with the CTCA board at their board meeting in Atlanta in August 2011. Fran Reichel, my caregiver and sister-in-law, was also there with me. It was a special day and one I will always remember. 44 cancer fighters thrive | summer 2012 cfthrive.com
